2014 Season - Week 24 (Cont)
Anatomy Of A Champion
The 2014 Sofa Wreckers were the first team to win the Papas Fritas Trophy to play half the season without a kicker. Having selected Alex Henery in the fourth round of the BUMS draft, Johnnie was shocked to see Philadelphia cut him prior to the start of the season. Then a week before Trading Day 1 Henery was signed by the Lions and scored six points so Johnnie decided to keep him and made no changes on TD1. The following week Henery scored two points and missed three field goals and was cut by Detroit. By the time Trading Day 2 came around Johnnie was four points clear at the top of the table despite his kicker having scored only 8 points through 9 weeks! The only change Johnnie made at TD2 was to sign Miami kicker Caleb Sturgis who went on to score 57 points in the final eight weeks. Johnnie had to make one further change after week 14 when his first round pick Andre Ellington (30 points) was put on IR by Arizona. He replaced him with Denver’s third starting RB CJ Anderson who went on to score 24 more points in just three weeks. They played alongside his Franchise RB DeMarco Murray who scored thirteen touchdowns and was the fourth highest scoring running back. Johnnie’s three receivers (Demaryuis Thomas (Fr), Jeremy Maclin (2nd round) and (6th rnd) Florida State rookie Kelvin Benjamin totalled a superb 182 points. Thomas was the sixth highest scoring receiver with 68 points, Maclin equal seventh (60 pts) and Benjamin 11th with 54 points. Sofa’s head coach provided 72 points (equal first) as New England won 12 games and this was the first time Bill Belichick (taken in the fifth round) won the Papas Fritas Trophy. However the biggest steal probably came in the third round where Johnnie picked up his man-crush QB. Aaron Rodgers went on to score 127 points (second highest) in winning his fourth Papas Fritas trophy in the past six years. How did we all let Rodgers slip to the forty second pick of the BUMS draft.
More Congratulations to Johnnie
This Sunday Johnnie and Jess will be getting married in Sydney and two other BUMS (Mark and Marcus) have flown out to Australia to represent this esteemed organisation. A huge congratulations to our champion and his number one cheerleader. Once he has returned to blighty, John will return to the job of arranging the next official BUMS gathering, the postseason dinner and after that merriment is over we will hopefully be meeting to see the 2015 Draft, which happens on April 30th to May 2nd. More details nearer the time.
